Our new home!

Greetings one and all!

It has been a long, long time since I have written and let me tell you, so much has changed!!  Unique Boutique and Bridal celebrated its 6th anniversary last February.  I realize that doesn't sound like such a long time, but when you consider we were founded just a little over a year before the huge financial collapse of 2008, we have weathered quite a storm!  I started the business with 21 wedding gowns on four racks in my basement.  Last fall we purchased our own 5000 square foot historic building in Knightstown.  We now have Boutique Utopia - a boutique for girls of all ages - and Unique Boutique and Bridal nestled together in the same building with plenty of parking right outside the front door.  We are so blessed!  From those meager 21 generic wedding gowns, we have grown to carry the latest styles from some of the best known and most popular designers in the industry.  We attend designer fashion shows in Chicago every year so we are able to order the most fabulous gowns available right off the runways.  Our selection of bridesmaids dresses has grown as well and we are now offering tuxedo rentals from two of the top formal wear companies in the country.  Who could have guessed it would come to this?  We are so thankful for the blessings God has showered on us as well as the blessings we receive from every single one of our customers.  Thank you so much for visiting our blog.  We hope with all our hearts to meet you in person soon.  Call us to schedule your bridal appointment or just drop in to shop for those casual summer clothes and gift items.

Well here at the shop we have been crazy busy! We had a great turn out for our Prom Palooza. This week we decided we are going to take a business trip to the Chicago Bridal Market in a few weeks and are so excited to get all the latest fashions in our shop. Speaking of new fashions...yesteterday we recieved our first wedding dress from our friend and wedding gown designer in Turkey! This dress is so amazing and wonderful, not to mention we are the only distributer of this designer in the USA ! We are having one of our wonderful prom girls come in later today to do a photoshoot in it (pictures will be up shortly after).

Prom Palooza

We are in full swing with our Prom Palooza!! All of our Prom Gowns are 10% off through the rest of the weekend. We have had so much fun with all the girls coming in from all over. We are here till 8:00pm tonight and tomorrow from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Come and see us!!

Here are the girls working away!!I can't believe our week is already drawing to a close. Ryane and Mandie have been such treasures to have in the studio. The one character trait I most respect in both the girls is that they would rather actually DO whatever needs to be done instead of watching us do it. They both jjumped in with both feet tackling sewing and designing tasks that neither of them were familiar with. I presented them with two very daunting goals for the week. One was to take apart and restyle a vintage wedding gown and the second was to upcycle a fairly modern gown. The upcycled gown must be ready by 4:00 when our model and our professional photographer arrive for the formal photo shoot. The girls are finishing up some hand work on the lace train and the gown will be done with at least an hour to spare. The vintage dress has gone as far as it can until we discuss some issues with the bride. I am so impressed with these two girls!

Ramblings of An Intern

Mandie Lenar here with a refletion on my internship. Intruding on anyone's workplace is a daunting task, and the usual mindest of an intern is to stay quiet and out of the way. But here at Unique Boutique and Bridal I got the chance to do some real work from the moment I arrived and put to use some of my old sewing lessons and 4-H experiene. Said work was on an actual wedding dress someone might actually wear (which blows my mind, since a girl's wedding is the most important day of her life). The program Suzy Zeller has set up here is something special. I often personify things in my mind, and if I were to personify these dresses - she is giving them a second chance at life. Instead of being thrown away after one use they get to be made into something new entirely. I have never been the most talented at sewing (especially cutting - in Kindergarten I was so bad they told me to practice on coupons at home), but with the guidance Suzy has given me I feel as if I am accomplishing something even if I don't know exactly how I'm doing it! Some stuff had to be redone, but for the most part things are moving along smoothly, and I'm excited for the end result. Safe to say I'm happy with my internship choice. :)
